About
Tradition holds that Sunan Ampel, one of the Wali Songo saints, founded the mosque in 1421, and a steady stream of pilgrims visits his grave in the complex. The lanes of Pasar Ampel are lined with stalls selling prayer gear, Muslim clothing and Middle Eastern foods. Dress modestly, take your shoes off where asked and avoid the main prayer times.
