Sidoarjo — Kota Delta — the Delta City, also Kota Udang (Shrimp City)

Sidoarjo is the regency just south of Surabaya, set on the Brantas delta between Kali Surabaya to the north and Kali Porong to the south. Factories, Juanda Airport and commuter suburbs crowd its north, while shrimp and milkfish ponds line the Madura Strait coast. In Porong, the Lapindo mudflow, which burst out near a Lapindo Brantas gas well in May 2006, has displaced more than 10,000 people.

Best time to visit

May–November (drier months)
Rain is light for most of this stretch, so it is the easiest time for the coast, temple ruins and outdoor markets. Daytime highs still reach 31–33°C.
Late January (Hari Jadi Sidoarjo, 31 January)
The regency's anniversary (Harjasda) is marked with an official ceremony at the alun-alun, which reopened after a revamp on 27 January 2026, in time for the 167th anniversary.
December–April (wet season)
This is when most of the year's rain falls. Plan indoor stops for the afternoons and keep a rain jacket handy.
