Ride-hailing
Ride-hailing (Gojek, Grab and others)

Gojek and Grab both operate in Bali. Grab requires drivers to hold a Bali ID card or domicile letter and to use Bali (DK) number plates (Antara, Jan 2025).
Tips (3)
Some villages and taxi associations bar app drivers from picking up in their area, with signs in places such as Canggu, Jimbaran and Uluwatu; walk out of the zone or meet the driver around the corner.
The airport and some hotels also restrict app pick-ups, so check the pick-up point in the app.
App fees, surge pricing and promos mean the in-app price can differ from the regulated rate.
Taxi
Metered taxis (Bluebird and others)
Fare varies
Metered; agree on the meter before you set off
Street and app-booked metered taxis; Bluebird, which runs BYD electric cars in Bali, is the usual recommendation because some other drivers refuse the meter.
Pay with
Cash · MyBluebird app · Order by WhatsApp (Bluebird)
Goes to
Bluebird lists its BYD E6 and the phone-order-only e-Bluebird BYD T3 for Bali. Wikivoyage warns that competition between taxi firms leads to scams such as 'broken' meters and inflated fares.
Tips (2)
If the meter is 'broken', get out and find another taxi or book through an app.
Traffic jams are common all year in Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Canggu and Sanur, so a meter fare can climb fast.
Bike
Scooter rental
Fare varies
About Rp150,000 for two days in Ubud (detikBali, Oct 2026); electric scooters from AYOOK Rp128,000–160,000 a day

Pay with
Paid to the rental shop
Goes to
Rental shops operate across the tourist areas; petrol is extra (Pertalite Rp10,000 per liter in Oct 2026).
Tips (3)
Foreigners need an International Driving Permit with a motorcycle endorsement that matches their home licence.
Police fine riders without helmets, and travel insurance may not cover unlicensed riding.
During the October 2026 fuel shortage petrol stations had long queues; electric scooters and TMD buses were the alternatives.
