About
Simpang Lima became Semarang's main square after Sukarno proposed moving it from Kauman, and Lapangan Pancasila at its centre was completed in 1969. On Sunday mornings the area is kept for walkers and cyclists (car-free day), and in the evening families rent light-up novelty bikes. Food stalls line the pavements on the east, south and west sides, with malls, hotels and Masjid Baiturrahman around the edge.
