About

Shaped like the bajra bell a Hindu priest rings while chanting, the 45-metre monument has 17 gates and 8 main pillars that echo 17 August 1945; it opened in 2003. Inside, dioramas tell Bali's story from early island life through the fight against colonial rule to the years after independence. It stands in the middle of Lapangan Puputan Margarana Niti Mandala, south of the governor's office.
