About
Kota Lama grew around the VOC fortress after Mataram handed Semarang to the Dutch in 1678, and was named a national cultural heritage area in 2020. Its landmarks include Gereja Blenduk, a domed church first built in 1753, Gedung Marba, the Spiegel building and Taman Srigunting, the old parade ground at its centre. Walking around is free at any hour, and Spiegel or Tekodeko make easy coffee stops.
