About
Tugu Muda commemorates the five-day battle between Semarang's youth and Japanese troops in October 1945; Sukarno unveiled it on 20 May 1953, with reliefs by Hendra Gunawan and Edhi Sunarso. Museum Mandala Bhakti, in a colonial courthouse of about 1906 on the roundabout, displays Kodam IV/Diponegoro weapons and photographs. Every 14 October the city stages an evening re-enactment of the battle here.
