About
Penatarsewu has smoked fish for decades and is known locally as Kampung Asap; you smell it as soon as you arrive. Families clean the fish, skewer them on bamboo and smoke them over coconut shell or firewood until golden brown. It is a working village rather than a tourist site, and most of the fish goes to traditional markets around Sidoarjo.
